Vietnamese favorites: Crispy pancakes & Hotpot

With the start of autumn, I often think back to the trip we made through Vietnam this summer. Not only because of the beautiful beaches,  but especially because of the food. That was so fresh and tasteful, I think we’ve tried everyting that the Vietnamese kitchen has to offer.

After eating all this nice food, we felt like learning to cook it ourselves. So we joined a cooking class to learn a few basics and techniques. As we were definitely not the only Vietnamese foodlovers, there are a lot of places where you can do this.

We had ours at Morning Glory in Hoi An. Hoi An is a small and romantic village. First we went to a market where we could see and smell all the food we were going to use for our meals. After that experience, a big classroom filled with 30-40 people was waiting for us. Morning Glory became so popular that they have a special department for the cooking classes. Doesn’t sound so romantic, but the best part is that Ms Vy, the owner, has written a cook book in english. Our best souvenir.

In the introduction of the book, Ms Vy wrote about the Vietnamese philosophy. It may sound blurry, but I think there is a truth behind it.

“In our country we believe that your quality of life depends on how much you enjoy your food. To be satisfied with our food is our toppriority.”
